What is corn gluten crumble?
Corn Gluten crumble is a type of organic fertilizer that is made as a by-product during the production of corn syrup.
It is also used to make taco shells, corn chips, and animal feed. It is 60% protein containing about 10% nitrogen.

How does it work?
Much of the nitrogen is delivered from proteins that, while they decompose, improve soil quality and microbial activity.
Corn Gluten in higher doses and used over longer periods of time as a fertilizer works by inhibiting root formation in weeds
at the time of germination. It does not however inhibit roots of mature plants or transplants unless it is used at very high
rates of 80lbs per 1000sqft or more. Weeds will germinate and form a shoot, but no root, which prevents growth.
A short dry period is required after germination because too much water may allow the weeds to recover and form roots.

What else can you expect from your lawn when using this product?
In adequate amounts and when used over a period of months and years as a fertilizer corn gluten crumble
limits successful germination of crabgrass, dandelions, curly dock, knotweed, lambs quarters, pigweed and plantain.
The dipeptide proteins in the corn gluten are toxic to root growth in seedlings.

When and how do I get started?
Fertilizing should begin early in the growing season with existing healthy lawns when soil temperature is above 5 degrees
Celsius and water is adequate. The type and quantity of fertilizer depends entirely on the condition of your lawn
